How to Write Professional Resumes: Guide for Jobseekers

The first step to job or internship hunting is to prepare a resume. All kids fresh out of college or school must be facing this conundrum. How to write winning and appealing resumes that are not filtered out by AI is a shadowy mystery. The threat of AI filtering out your resume is only magnified by your confusion because there was no class that you could have taken that would have detailed the format and technique for writing an excellent resume. What to be included, what not to be included, all is shrouded through a fog of ignorance.

Despite all these confusions, there are of course those who have learned to crack the system and write impressive resumes, nonetheless, clubbing together their advice along with my own, I have come up with simple do’s and don’ts that one could follow to write resumes that will not be filtered out by an AI assistant and will at least reach the next level of authentication.

DO’S:

  1. Follow a chronological sequence:

It is better to mention your achievements or qualifications in a FUTURE–PAST manner. This means that the things you have done latest should be mentioned first, and then those that have occurred in the past. For example, as a student who is just starting, you must mention your last important exam marks first, be it the 10th or 12th Std or college exam marks.

  1. Write a simple profile:

Your profile describes your ability and most possibly the type of work you will be doing wherever you are applying. Writing a simple profile provides clarity and is easier to classify. A profile should include your objective as well, this objective helps gauge your ambition and cast a positive light on the reviewer.

  1. Include skills and co-curricular:

The inclusion of skills and co-curriculars is especially important for students who have little or no experience with the corporate world. These show your capacity as a worker and your potential for future endeavors. It is most likely for budding students to be accepted on the merit of their co-curricular achievements.

  1. Writing achievements:

A resume is also an exhibition of your achievements. They are necessary and help build trust in you and add to your merit as a worker. How these achievements are written is a great reflection of your character. Try to include those achievements that provide a peak into skills you might have, like management, technical, or communication skills are extremely desirable.

  1. Try to be honest and sincere:

More than anything, try to be genuine, sincere and honest. Do not over or undersell yourself. AI assistants try to root out those workers who will not be assets in the long term. So, by writing a genuine and sincere resume, you will already stand out from the hoard.

What you don’t do is just as important as what you do. Having understood at least some semblance of what is to be included in a resume here is a handy dandy list of things you should avoid writing to have an awesome, AI – proof resume:

Writing a good resume is how you open the door to multiple opportunities and begin your professional career, so write a nice resume and send it to all the places you imagine yourself working, because only by doing can you achieve.
